In very, very approximate order of muse strength. Probably not complete.

Edward Elric (2003):
[personal profile] rewritethis: "Rewrite" is the fourth opening song of FMA 2003 and sets the tone for the final arc of the series, the end of which just happens to be this jerk's canon point. The song fits with his and the story's development up until then; it's not cheery like the first two openings or nostalgic like the third, it's about a reality so impossible to salvage that there's nothing left to do but tear it down. It's defiant. Defiance is also supposed to be implied by the imperative phrasing (although if I'd found a pretentious single word conjugation of it that wasn't taken, I would have used it...). There's a meta meaning as well - 2003's plot and characterisation were definitely rewrites of the original material. And it fits with [personal profile] unweavethis, but that's a complete coincidence and has nothing to do with ships whatsoever.
talktothearm: ...because if things escalate to that point, which is not particularly difficult given all the issues this oddball canon point leaves him to contend with, it's not just the fist you'll have to worry about. Not really 2003-specific, and a bit silly, which were the main reasons I changed it.
[personal profile] imperfect: Quote from two different places in the last episode: "The world's not perfect. That's why it's beautiful." Neither of those instances are said by him, but it does neatly sum up his development and 2003 as a whole - even though life isn't fair, things don't work out how you'd expect and you might never be able to make up for what's gone wrong, that's no reason not to try. The adjective also applies literally since he's always going to be a bit of an arrogant jerk and a flawed person, although that doesn't really count for much.

Alphonse Elric (2003): [personal profile] unerasable: Late in the series, he reflects on all the times he "should have" died, but didn't. It's like the universe keeps trying to scrub him out and can never quite manage it. When he eventually wipes himself out of existence, it doesn't stick either - not even the loss of his memory, which was supposed to be the cost... But it fits, because being steadfastly constant and grounding the people he cares about is what he does best. Also, song lyrics, because 2003's first ending song "Kesenai Tsumi" can be translated as "Unerasable Sin" and is thematically appropriate to both of these kids.

Osaka: [personal profile] grainsoftruth: She brings you these - or should, at least, because something of note about her assorted ramblings is the internal if not external logic they tend to have.

Edward Elric (Brotherhood): [personal profile] sawhell: Repeated line throughout the first few episodes of Brotherhood (the part where they're on fast-forward thanks to 2003 existing) - the military is going to show those kids hell, but that doesn't matter, because they've already seen it. I think the key thing is the past tense, because that's in a vague way one of the less obvious points where 2003 diverged; in this story, they see it, come back from it and eventually leave it behind.

Rainbow Dash: [personal profile] unweavethis: Keats' Lamia, by way of Dawkins' Unweaving the Rainbow. Apparently the popular interpretation of "unweaving the rainbow" to mean taking all the joy out of things by overanalysing them might be wrong, but I never took lit in school, so what do I know? Anyway, good luck analysing ponies. The imperative phrasing is because she's confrontational.

Guilmon: [personal profile] armabreaddon: Pun! The whole Digital Hazard thing, plus his trademark favourite food. If it seems straightforward, well - he is straightforward. And completely fine with it.

Kyubey: [personal profile] servanda: Pacta sunt servanda is a fancy legal term for the concept that pacts are supposed to be carried out; it's such an old principle it sounds almost tautological, and it's basically the definition of a contract. It's pretentious, but the word "puella magi" is more or less Latin and most of the (amazing) music in the series has Latin titles, so why not?

Rarity: [personal profile] materialmare: She's a material girl in a material world. It's a pun.

Katou Juri: [personal profile] handpuppeted: The passive is supposed to imply her perceived helplessness, although she does take a stand near the end of the series and is better off for it.

Twilight Sparkle: [personal profile] checktwice: She's making a list. She's checking it twice. She's going to find out who's naughty and nice, but mostly the latter because Ponyville is pretty idyllic.
